After a month of gorgeous weather, we finally got a day of continual rain. It started with a walk through the Tsukiji Outer Market, a maze of market stalls selling fresh seafood, vegetables, and other Japanese foods. The next stop was the Tokyo National Museum. There was a special exhibition of “National Treasures of To-ji Temple” that Tom and I saw, while others went through the standard collection. We knew we would be returning the next day.
Following a buffet lunch, we went to Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s oldest neighborhoods and home to the city’s oldest temple, Senso-ji, that was built in the 7th century and later expanded. A quick photo stop at the Imperial Palace Plaza ended the day tour.
When we arrived back at the hotel, we found a koto player in the lobby. She’s there every afternoon to entertain returning guests. For our break before dinner, Tom got to watch an hour of Sumo on the local channel as it was played live. They’re on day 10 of a 15-day tournament.
Our farewell dinner was at Tsuki sur la Mer, a French restaurant with impressive night views of the Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Bay. Our drive to dinner showed off the night scenery of Tokyo and the tall Tokyo Tower. This concluded the post-tour AIA extension.
