Friday, May 24, Tokyo

We agreed that this was our favorite day of all because of the interesting things was saw.  We started at the Mori Teamlab Digital Art Museum.  At least we tried to!  After showing the hotel bell captain and the taxi driver where we wanted to go (written in Japanese by the hotel concierge), the taxi driver took us to the wrong place (a different Teamlab).  We then had to find a taxi driver who knew where we actually wanted to go.  It was actually at the base of the tall Tokyo Skywheel.  The Mori Digital Art Museum is a series of dark rooms with digital displays on walls, ceilings and floors that changed continually.  It was amazing and the best digital art we’ve ever seen.  In one room, we had some tea and every time you let your tea bowl stand, a flower would appear in its center.  When you moved the tea bowl, the flower and petals would scatter (projections from the ceiling onto the table).  It was a great experience!

Our second museum was the Mori Art Museum.  Their 15th anniversary exhibit was called “Roppongi Crossing 2019: Connexions” and was a great modern art museum with interesting films and exhibits.  They also had a special exhibit from Pixar showing how their films are made.  Part of the Pixar exhibit was on the 52nd floor deck with a 360-degree view of the city of Tokyo. Wow!

We finally ended the day with dinner in the hotel restaurant, Seisun, with sushi and teppanyaki.  We love this hotel!  There’s a koto player in the hotel each afternoon.

Here are photos from the Mori Teamlab Digital Art Museum.  They’re all a bit blurry because everything was moving inside the exhibit:

These are from the Mori Art Museum and the view from the 52nd floor.  The first photo was lunch at the museum – it was labelled as a “hamburger” but had a tortilla hat and fried fish inside!
